Buildings Insurance - This cover provides protection for the actual structure of your home including fixtures and fittings. Normally a rebuild value for the building is required. If you do not have an updated value, the Association of British Insurers (ABI) has a calculator to help you with a guide price. ABI / BCIS HOUSE REBUILDING COSTS
The sum insured under a buildings insurance policy must be the full rebuilding cost of the home. The market value of your home or the Council Tax band valuation have no direct relationship to the rebuilding cost of your home.
Contents Insurance - This cover provides protection for your furniture and personal possessions, it is essentially cover for everything you would take with you if you moved homes.
Both the buildings and contents insurance covers can be combined into one single home insurance policy with one household insurer or two separate home insurance policies with two different house insurers. Premiums can be paid annually or on a monthly basis through a premium finance agreement.
